Panic Attacks Children – Even Our Young Ones Can Suffer From This Disorder

Panic attacks are very scary and symptoms can include difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat, intense fear and discomfort.  These episodes can last for a couple of minutes in some cases and in other cases can last for hours.

The really sad thing about this disorder is that it can even affect our children.  When suffering panic attacks children can have very similar symptoms and with their young minds you can imagine it would be very scary for them.

As adults we often think that childhood is the best time of our lives and children really have things easy and have nothing to be stressed or depressed about.  But unfortunately these days there seems to be more and more children that are being diagnosed with disorders such as depression, anxiety and panic disorder.

Fortunately if you do recognize symptoms of panic attacks in your child then you can seek treatment to help them overcome the disorder.  You may need to observe your childs day to day behavior for a while to try and establish what may be causing your childs problems.  You might need to observe to see whether there is one particular stressful situation that sets of a panic attack, or whether you child is under a lot of stress in general that has led to their disorder.

To help your child overcome panic attacks here are a few tips:

1. Try to establish the cause and then try to eliminate or deal with that cause in a better way.

2. Try to reduce stress in your child’s life and make more happy moments.

3. If there has been an incident in your child’s life that has caused the panic attacks, they may need to seek counselling regarding the incident.

4. If there is an ongoing issue that maybe causing your child’s panic attacks then you can try and deal with that issue or remove your child from the situation permanently.

5. Cognitive behavior therapy is helpful for both children and adults suffering panic attacks as it helps to retrain the way that the mind perceives a situation.

These are just a few tips to help with panic attacks in children.  Remember too that they are just kids and don’t need to be put under a lot of stress.  If your child is under too much stress or pressure then you may need to make some adjustments to their life to reduce the stress.
